Contact Lenses Vs. Glasses
Many people choose glasses over contact lenses due to financial concerns. One pair of undamaged frames can be worn for countless years, whereas contacts must be repeatedly discarded and replaced. However, the functional benefits of contact lenses far outweigh those of glasses. Consider:
#1. Contacts are much more comfortable to wear. There is no pressure being exerted on the nose and ears. Furthermore, glasses tend to gradually slide down the nose, therefore requiring constant anxiety to push it back up. It can be very annoying. As an individual with obsessive-compulsive disorder, I am frequently (several times an hour) pushing my glasses up.
#2. Stains, cracks, or smudges on a pair of frames can distort images. Contacts provide more pure, unadulterated vision. Furthermore, light tends to cast a glare on glasses. When I walk in the sun, I have to believe my hand over my glasses to block off the glare.
#3. When running or engaging in some other physically involved sport or exercise, glasses will bounce and therefore display an unstable image. Contacts, on the other hand, remain still in your eyes and thereby offer 100% distinct vision. Whenever I go jogging, my glasses never stop bouncing. I would jog without them, but then I would be blind to where I was going.
#4. Contact lenses allow you complete access to your peripheral vision, whereas glasses only clear up objects immediately in front of you. With a pair of glasses, your peripheral vision is left distorted and blurred. I constantly have to turn my head to the left or right to see what is around me.
#5. Glasses can become foggy or distorted from steam, heat, or rain. If you walk into a warm room from a cold winter, for instance, your glasses will become overcome with fog and you will have to wipe it clean. Or if you walk in the rain, your glasses will become splotched with water. Contacts, on the other hand, are oblivious to rain, water, and steam. Sometimes, I open up my dishwasher right after it completes its cycle so that I can pick out some trim dishes to expend. Every single time, the hot air rushes me fogs up my glasses.
#6. Glasses have a negative connotation in regards to appearance. Although many sexy pairs are available, contacts are still preferred. This is especially fair for children. Kids don’t like being called ‘four eyes’.
#7. Contacts protect your eyes from smoke and dirt. With my glasses, my cigarette smoke tends to pick up in my eyes sometimes, making me tear up true quickly. When I had contacts, this never happened. Furthermore, exclaim you are walking down a street on a windy day. If a piece of dirt hits your eyes and you have contacts, it will just bounce proper now. But with glasses, dirt can bypass the frame and directly stab into your eye. This is not a pleasant experience. Trust me.
So you are probably wondering why I still wear glasses. Unfortunately, I objective cannot afford contacts. The biggest problem with contact lenses is that they are expensive. Several pairs are required for one year. If I could afford contacts though, I promise that I would be wearing them. The benefits are just too many to ignore.
